Trip Report: Qantas 787 Dallas to Sydney in Business Class (DFW-SYD)

UPDATE 3/2026 : I flew Qantas again (A380 LAX > SYD, no full trip report, sorry) and I wanted mention that it was a much better flight than the one I describe here from six months earlier. I don't know if it's the A380 versus the 787, or just a Dallas vs. LAX crew, but on the A380 I had proper turndown service like you'd get on ANA or Singapore, onboard espresso (with oat milk on offer), and a vastly friendlier and attentive crew than on my Dallas flight. The rest of the voyage (food, seat, no-wifi, etc.) was largely the same.    This was my first-ever trip on Qantas (!!) and, in short, it felt like United Polaris on a good day – pleasant staff, comfortable bed, decent food. 85,000 Alaska miles (topped up with my BILT card). It's a well-timed flight: take off around 10pm, eat dinner, go to bed, wake up, have breakfast, land at 6am in Sydney. I didn't even have time to watch a movie, just a couple games of Balatro ;) *gay gasp* 👎 As already mentioned, no wif...

Trip Report: Asiana A350-900 Sydney to JFK via Seoul in Business Class (SYD-ICN-JFK)

A quiet, efficient, reasonably-priced option for getting back to New York from Sydney. It's a bit longer in the air, but a guaranteed lie-flat seat sure beats doing 14 hours in a United Premium Plus recliner to SFO followed by 6 crowded hours in Economy to NYC. pros good lounges Seoul airport has Toto Washlets in the lounges AND in the terminal  very attentive service split boarding and deplaning (aka, separate jetways for Business and Economy) the A350 has decent wifi for $21 (full flight) transiting thru Seoul you can bring sealed duty free items (liquor) through transiting thru Seoul you don’t need a K-ETA visa like you do to enter Korea  bathrooms have toothbrushes and lotions and mouthwash so you don’t have to open the amenity kit to get just one thing out of it  seat is quite long when in flat mode  espresso! cons no personal air vents   ran out of korean style menu  fairly limited liquor selection. and like who’s ordering Drambuie?  neutral f...

A post-covid return to EVA's Taipei to New York 777 flight

Image
We're back from our Japan and Taipei trip and even though it took a lot of finagling , the actual travel was really smooth and pleasant. We've taken this 15 hour flight before, back in 2017 , and it was largely the same.  PROS EVA Air seems to be pricing one ways at half the cost of round trips Espresso onboard! They have new, very nice pajamas and the XL ones fit me now They kept the cabin at a reasonable temp this time (was super hot before) Dual jetways and very orderly boarding Great lounges in Taipei with showers and hot food Super attentive and helpful staff Extensive online menu for pre-booking meals NEUTRAL The flight didn't get any shorter and the plane didn't get any faster, so it's still 15 hours in the air ;) Seat-back entertainment didn't have a ton of good options Oddly-timed flight, you take off at 7pm, sleep a ton (if you're lucky) then land at 10pm and sorta need to go to bed again.  CON Krug is gone (but the Laurent Perrier is decent) Wi-Fi...
